Image: Prescott may have to knock McCloskey out to ensure that he gets the winBy Scott Gilfoid: Breidis Prescott (24-2, 12 KO’s) may be the much talented fighter but he’s going into hostile territory on September 10th against Ireland’s Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Prescott will probably out-land the offensively deficient McCloskey by a 10 to 1 margin in this fight, and land the much harder shots.

However, because the fight is taking place in McCloskey’s home country, Prescott will probably have to knock McCloskey cold to get the win. I already saw Prescott whip Kevin Mitchell in December 2009, and fail to get the decision. I had Prescott winning 9 rounds to 3 in that fight.

Boxing fans have probably forgot all about that one, but they need to take another look at it to see how badly Prescott was jobbed in that fight. This is why Prescott has got to really knock McCloskey. I mean, he’s got to knock him cold because if McCloskey drag his self back to his feet, he could drape himself on Prescott for much of the remainder of the fight and still get a decision despite doing nothing.

I literally can see Prescott out-tagging McCloskey as much as 15-1 in punches and still end up losing. McCloskey has no offensive whatsoever. He’s like a baseball player that can field but who can’t hit even at a 200 batting average. McCloskey is just weak and puts his entire focus on just not getting hit. He does throw a rare shot every now and then, but not enough to beat an excellent fighter like Prescott unless the judges are completely ignoring everything that Prescott is doing.

In the case, McCloskey will likely win every round of the fight even the ones he gets knocked down in. That’s why I believe that Prescott has got to knock him out to make sure he gets to decision. It’s sad but that’s probably the reality if this fight. McCloskey will likely get the benefit of the doubt even if gets totally dominated, which he will.
