Wladimir is reportedly looking to sign the 39-year-old fringe contender for a stay busy title defense in December. The thought of Wladimir facing an old guy like Mormeck is kind of repellent for a lot of boxing fans, but there’s a wisdom to this choice for Wladimir.

Mormeck is actually a popular fighter in Europe and whether Wladimir fights him in Germany or Mormeck’s home country of France, the fight will make a lot of money for Wladimir compared to the other bouts out there for him at this time. Wladimir can obviously make more cash fighting David Haye again, but he’s decided to let his big brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko face Haye next. Wladimir easily be Haye by a lopsided 12 round decision last July.

The bar is pretty low for a fighter like Mormeck right now, because he doesn’t have to do much to improve on the performance that Haye made. To be sure, Mormeck has looked terrible in his three fights at heavyweight in the last two years, but his come forward style will be conducive for an exciting fight against Wladimir while it lats. All Mormeck wants is to be able to try his big shots on Wladimir’s vulnerable chin to see how well he holds up to these power punches. Wladimir has had it pretty easy in the past few years, and maybe Mormeck can pull off an upset if he attacks Wladimir hard in the first few rounds. Mormeck has got to attack Wladimir hard in the first few rounds if he wants to do anything, because once it gets past that point, Mormeck tends to tire out and bust up.
