However, Fury has finally gotten serious about his diet, taken a lot of weight and has new dedication about his training that he never had before. Fury faces journeyman Nicolai Firtha (20-8-1, 8 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Kings Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland. The last thing that the 22-year-old Fury needs is to be worrying about being overweight for an important fight like this.

“I looked at myself on TV and didn’t like what I saw,” Fury said to Thesun.co.uk. “I looked like a pig. Against John McDermott, I was more than 19 stone, not the sort of condition a top athlete should be in. It was never the training with me…It’s been the the food – plenty of junk food…Now I’ll take a fruit salad and a big bottle of water.”

Fury’s diet is crucial for him because if he comes into his fight against Firtha weighing a fat 260 or 270, he could very lose the bout and be brought back down to earth. Fury just beat Dereck Chisora by an impressive 12 round decision last July, and he wants to keep moving forward until he gets a world title shot against one of the Klitschko brothers. He had a chance to fight IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko if he had wanted to, but opted instead to continue to get better slowly before being matched against Wladimir or his brother Vitali Klitschko.
