Image: Froch: It doesn't matter when I fight Ward - I'm still going to stop himBy William Mackay: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KO’s) has a new possible fight date against WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KO’s) for their Super Six tournament finals bout. Instead of it happening on October 29th, the fight now could take place on December 10th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Ward suffered a bad cut over his right eye during sparring this past week, and won’t be able to fight Froch on their originally scheduled date of October 29th.

This isn’t exactly an ideal date, however, it will put Froch in competition with WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s next fight against Lamont Peterson, which also takes place on December 10th.

Speaking with thesun.co.uk, Froch said “I am totally gutted to have this fight postponed, but it doesn’t really matter if it’s October, November or December, Ward knows he will get stopped by me. I know Khan fights on December 10, but it’s down to the American TV companies who are also looking at a week before and a week after as possible dates.”

You would have to think that Khan’s fight will get more viewers than Froch’s, because Khan appears to be the more popular fighter in the UK than Froch. In the United States, it would be toss up. Froch has been the much more exciting fighter compared to Khan in their fights that have been televised in the U.S. Only one of Khan’s fights that have been shown in the U.S was exciting, and that was his bout against the all action Marcos Maidana last December.

Khan didn’t do much to make exciting, however, with his constant running. It was Maidana that made that an exciting affair. Khan’s other fights have been mismatched against a faded Paulie Malignaggi and Zab Judah, and then a bout against a weak-punching little known fighter Paul McCloskey.

Froch needs to push for a different date for his Ward fight, because competing against Khan will hurt him. He needs to try and push for a later date if he can handle waiting longer. It’s better to take it a little later and have more viewers than to rush it and end up with far less eyeballs watching the fight.
