Image: Zab Judah feels cheatedBy John F. McKenna (McJack): Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) light welterweight champion Zab Judah (41-7, 2 NC, 28 KO’s) still feels that he was cheated in his KO loss to WBA/IBF light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-1, 18 KO’s) on July 23.

Judah paid a visit on Friday afternoon to the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, Nevada to check out his former foe Floyd Mayweather Jr (41-0, 25 KO’s) as he trained for his upcoming match with WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KO’s).

Judah still claims that the punch which drove him to his knees in his fight with Amir Khan was an illegal one although the replay clearly showed that the punch landed on the beltline of his trunks, which is a legal punch. Judah feels that the fight with Khan should have been allowed to continue. Judah feels cheated in that he had trained very hard and was well prepared for Khan. He also feels that he owed his trainer Pernell Whittaker another seven rounds of boxing.

Against Khan, Zab was clearly outclassed from the outset of the fight which ended in the 5th round. Khan used his superior size and speed to dismantler Judah and in the 4th found started to land some telling shots. From that point on it was just a matter of time until Amir totally overwhelmed Judah.

Many boxing writers and fans have made the assertion that Zab Judah knew he could not win against Khan as the fight progressed and was looking for a way out. After he went down he made no effort to get up as he was being counted out by the referee. Afterwards Judah said that he thought the referee was giving him an eight count in order to give him a chance to get it together. That explanation did little to dissuade the fans who have insinuated that Zab simply quit.

Judah appeared to be in good spirits and not ruffled by the assertions of his critics. He maintains that he was the only one who felt the pain and stated that for him to quit in a fight is unrealistic.

Judah made a point of saying that in no way is he considering retirement and that boxing fans will be seeing more of Zab Judah.
