Image: Wladimir not interested in fighting Haye again, Vitali is an option thoughBy William Mackay: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) will have to set his goals a little lower than fighting a rematch against IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimr Klitschko (56-3, 49 KO’s), as he reportedly has no interest in fighting Haye again.

However, WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO’s) is eager to take on Haye once he gets past his September 10th fight against Tomasz Adamek. Vitali, however, isn’t the fight that Haye is interested in. Haye has been saying he has no beef with Vitali, and wants to fight Wladimir because he’s the one that beat him.

Haye has been talking about retiring on his 31st birthday in October. He says the only thing that would cause him to delay his retirement would be a rematch against Wladimir. However, Wladimir says he doesn’t see any point in fighting Haye again because of how one-sided the fight was.

Haye could possibly get the rematch with Wladimir if he were interested in taking on one or two quality heavyweights to build his name back up in the boxing world. For some reason Haye doesn’t want to fight anyone to build back up to a rematch. He wants Wladimir to fight him again without Haye having to fight anyone else.

This is Haye’s predicament. He wants the Wladimir rematch but isn’t interested in fighting anyone to get that fight. If Haye was open to fighting one or two guys, it would likely have to be a better caliber fighter than the guys that Haye fought going into the Wladimir bout. Haye took on mostly older heavyweights in the late 30s rather than young fighters.

Haye could solve all of his problems if he would just agree to fight Vitali. Haye wouldn’t have to fight anyone to get that bout, as Vitali is willing to fight Haye straightaway without him beating anyone beforehand. However, Haye doesn’t Vitali, even though it would make him huge money. It doesn’t make sense, I know.
