Will Haye come of hiding for the Povetkin-Chagaev fight on August 27th?

By William Mackay: Since losing his WBA title against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on July 2nd, David Haye has been a missing man. He initially gave interviews practically begging Wladimir to give him an immediate rematch.

It was an insane request considering that Haye was never even slightly competitive with Wladimir in the 12 round decision loss. When it became clear that Wladimir wasn’t going to give him that rematch unless Haye actually fought a live body of two, Haye then disappeared completely and hasn’t been around since.

He’s supposed to be retiring in October, as that’s when he turns 31 and he said he wouldn’t fight beyond that date. However, many boxing fans see that as hog wash and expect Haye to keep fighting as soon as he sees a viable target to go after.

On August 27th, heavyweight contenders Ruslan Chagaev and Alexander Povetkin will be scraping over Haye’s World Boxing Association belt in Germany.

The WBA elevated Wladimir to the WBA “Super World” heavyweight champion and this freed up Haye’s old WBA title for the WBA to get more sanctioning fees for the upcoming Povetkin-Chagaev fight.

It would of interest if Haye were to show up at the Chagaev vs. Povetkin fight to watch these two guys go at it for his old title. It would be even better if Haye were to announce afterwards that he would fight the winner of this fight.

Surely, these are two guys that Haye can beat and pick up an easy belt. A win over Chagaev or Povetkin would likely be more than enough to interest Wladimir in a rematch.

It would give Wladimir cover for fighting Haye again because Haye would have knocked off a credible champion and become a heavyweight title holder once again.
