Why isn’t Adamek trash talking Vitali?

By Dan Ambrose: If I was to make a criticism of heavyweight challenger Tomasz Adamek I think the biggest mistake he’s making is his lack of trash talking towards his September 10th opponent WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko.

Adamek is being as polite as a choir boy to Vitali in their meets and in interviews, and it’s not good for hyping the fight.

You would think that Adamek might have learned from WBA heavyweight champion David Haye in the trash talking he did against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in the importance of talking down your opponent to get boxing fans interested in the fight.

You can see the effects of Adamek’s lack of trash talking by how little the Vitali-Adamek fight is being mentioned in the media.

That’s not because it’s not an interesting fight, because it certainly is a very good match-up, one of the best that have been made in recent years.

However, Adamek isn’t doing his part to market the fight by insulting Vitali. We’ve got less than a month to go before the fight and Adamek is lagging in drumming up interest in this bout.

Is it that Adamek is afraid to anger Vitali so that he won’t beat him as badly? Is that it? Shannon Briggs did a fair amount of trash talking and Vitali gave him a beating.

However, I think Vitali is the type that is going to beat you no matter what. That’s just his style. He’s going to take it easy on his opponent because they’ve been respectful to him like Adamek has been lately.

If anything, he might want to pound him more because he’s done a lousy job of getting boxing fans excited about this fight.

If I’m Adamek’s promoter, I’d be sitting him down and having a long talk with him about the importance of trash talking to get fans interested.

Adamek is flunking in that category and putting people to sleep with his kind words about Vitali. Adamek will obviously never be in the same category as David Haye in promoting a fight.

I don’t expect that of him, but I do expect Adamek to get animated and start picking Vitali apart. You’ve got to make boxing fans believe that you have a chance to win this fight, and I don’t see that happening here.

Adamek already has a couple strikes against him because he’s small and weak. He needs to make up for that by at least being able to trash talk and generate excitement with his mouth if not his size or talent.
