By Scott Gilfoid: Colombian Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s) will be looking to go after some big game after he destroys Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) on September 10th in a WBA light welterweight title eliminator bout at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Prescott, 28, wants to take on Amir Khan after the McCloskey fight and knock Khan out once again. Prescott easily stopped Khan three years ago in a 1st round knockout win in 2008.

Unlike a lot of fighters who would have immediately sought out a rematch to try and right things, Khan has wanted no part of fighting Prescott again. Instead of fighting Prescott, Khan says that he learned a lesson and would easily beat him if they were to fight again. That’s hard to believe given how badly Khan struggled against Marcos Maidana, a fighter a lot slower than Prescott.

Khan was still staggered by Maidana and almost knocked out. Looking at that fight it’s painfully obvious that Prescott would knock Khan out again. However, Prescott shouldn’t waste his time wishing for a Khan rematch.

It’s not going to happen. Khan doesn’t want to risk his neck trying to avenge his knockout loss and is quite comfortable avoiding Prescott. He won’t fight because he obviously doesn’t like his chances against this big puncher. Khan prefers to fight slow guys like McCloskey or old guys Zab Judah.

As for McCloskey, he has little chance of doing anything against Prescott. McCloskey has great defensive skills, but that’s about it. You can’t beat fighter like Prescott by just running around all night long trying to not get hit. McCloskey will get hit no matter how much running he does because Prescott’s powerful jab will easily find McCloskey often enough to win every round.

If McCloskey decides to stop running and actually make a fight of it, he’ll immediately get knocked out. It’s up to him. If he runs, McCloskey will lose every round and be humiliated in front of his Irish fans. If he stands and trades, he’ll get knocked cold and be humiliated in front of his Irish fans. Either way, it’s bad for McCloskey. But it’s better to at least try and find instead of going out with a whimper by running.
