Image: Prescott: I hope McCloskey doesn't run all over the placeBy Scott Gilfoid: The last thing that Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s) wants is to have to chase Irish light welterweight all around the ring trying to get him to actually fight on September 10th in their WBA light welterweight title eliminator at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern, Ireland.

McCloskey looked as poor as a fighter could in his last bout against Amir Khan last April, not even protesting when the referee and ringside doctor were examining a tiny cut he suffered in the 6th. The fight was halted, and he lost because he hadn’t been trying to fight back.

In an interview by Keith Terceira at 8countnews.com, Prescott said “I just hope he doesn’t run all over the ring. He’s not a typical Irish fighter, most are warriors that fight the way I fight.”

Prescott has got McCloskey pegged. He’s not like a typical Irish fighter because his main objective is defense and he seems to have forgotten everything else. How he could ignore his offense is not quite understood. I guess with the poor opposition he’d been facing before his bout with Khan, it didn’t matter that he didn’t have any offensive skills to speak of.

Prescott is going to really destroy McCloskey. This is going to be a brutal slaughter. Honestly, I don’t know McCloskey can do to prevent it. Sometimes a beating is something you can’t prevent even if you run. If I was McCloskey, I would stand my ground and go down swinging. I wouldn’t run and embarrass myself in front of my fans and only prolong my suffering. McCloskey doesn’t have a chance here and can only come and try to spoil by maybe running and holding like Khan did against Marcos Maidana.
