Prediction: Helenius to destroy Liakhovich
By Dan Ambrose: The heavyweight fight between Robert Helenius (15-0, 10 KO’s) and Sergiy Liakhovich (25-3, 16 KO’s) is about to start at the Messehall, in Efurt, Germany. On paper, this is a fairly even fight between two big heavyweights that can punch.
In reality, though, I suspect this is going to be a complete mismatch with the 35-year-old Liakhovich coming out like a timid rabbit, not throwing punches and just eating jabs, left hooks and straight right hands from the 6’6 1/2″ giant Helenius. Liakhovich froze up completely when he fought the big and slow Nikolay Valuev in 2008, just taking shots and not throwing punches for 12 rounds. Valuev easily won a lopsided 12 round decision against Liakhovich.
Helenius has good power and can fight going backwards. He’s like the heavyweight division’s version of Lucian Bute. Helenius has got a great uppercut, short left hook and is light his feet. He doesn’t move as well as heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko but he can punch.
