Pavlik was supposed to be fighting Darryl Cunningham this weekend but he wasn’t happy with only receiving $50,000 for the fight.

Pavlik then pulled of the fight and told his promoter he also wouldn’t be fighting Bute for the $1.35 million that was offered to him. Pavlik is now targeting WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch and Magee. You can see the Magee fight as a stay busy fight for Pavlik while he waits for Froch to free up.

The 36-year-old Magee is nowhere near the same level as Pavlik, and it would be a sickeningly easy fight for Pavlik to win. But it does fit into the category of a tune-up type bout to keep Pavlik busy until Froch becomes available to fight.

Magee recently beat little known Jaime Barboza for the interim World Boxing Association super middleweight title on July 30th by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 116-112, 118-110 and 117-111. I saw the fight and noted that Magee mostly had his way against the limited Barboza. It was more of a case of Barboza looking even worse than Magee. Neither fighter looked good at all, but Magee looked the less worse of the two. A ton of wrestling and holding. Can’t remember the last time I saw more wrestling in a fight. Pavlik would destroy this guy in two or three rounds. It’s nice easy fight to pick up the interim WBA strap. I would take it if Magee agrees to fight him.
