McKenna (McJack): The Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KO’s) matchup with WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KO’s) on September is quickly approaching and once again Golden Boy’s Oscar De La Hoya has the strategy to beat Mayweather.

This in not the first time we have heard that Oscar has the magic formula to beat Floyd. It seems that whenever Mayweather has a big fight coming up De La Hoya is offering advice to his opponent as to the best way to beat him.

Oscar believes that he and former lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo came closer than anybody to defeating Mayweather. It is true that Castillo did push Mayweather to the limit on their April 2002 fight and many in attendance thought that he should have at least earned a draw in that fight. Floyd ended the controversy as to who the better fighter was eight months later when we was the clear victor over Castillo in a rematch.

Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather was the big Mega Fight of 2007. And while Oscar had some success in the early rounds Floyd, as is often the case, began to analyze and decipher his style. Floyd came on strong in the 2nd half of the fight and won the decision. In this writers opinion Floyd was the clear winner and the fight was not as close as the scorecards indicated.

Evidently De La Hoya’s loss to Mayweather still bothers him. When Juan Manuel Marquez fought Floyd Mayweather in 2009, Oscar was only too happy to offer him advice also on the best way to beat Floyd. Oscar’s advice did not help Marquez who lost decisively to Mayweather.

Oscar continues to assert that he is not against Floyd, even though he gives his opponents advice on how to beat him. He says simply that he is just rooting for the underdog. In his fight with Mayweather, Ortiz is a huge underdog and he needs all the help he can get.

It is unlikely that De La Hoya’s advice to Victor Ortiz will have a significant impact on the outcome of his fight with Floyd Mayweather.

In his last fight in 2008 De La Hoya was battered into submission by Manny Pacquiao and he was unable to come out for the 9th round.
