Maidana doesn’t need to tell boxing fans he’s the number #1 fighter over and over again and yak about how he deserves to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr; Maidana is quietly proving to be a fan favorite by putting on exciting fights and not ducking the quality guys to face weak punchers to protect himself. This is what’s so great about Maidana. He’s not a manufactured guy that’s shoved down our throats by the network television in bouts against guys that can’t punch their way through a wet paper bag.

Maidana is the real thing, and a win over Guerrero will make him in my view the number #1 fighter in the light welterweight division. Sorry, Khan, you can brag about being the number #1 guy off of empty wins over old guys like Zab Judah, and guys with zero power like Paul McCloskey and Paulie Malignaggi, but Maidana is the genuine article.

The Maidana-Guerrero fight will bring in huge numbers for HBO, much bigger than the numbers that Khan has been bringing in. The reason for that is because Maidana is an exciting fighter who does just run around the ring all night long like a chicken with it’s head cut off looking to hold and hit, and toss low blows. He’s for real. However, he’s got to get by Guerrero to claim his throne and rip away from the pretenders like Khan.
