Klitschko-Adamek undercard takes shape – but not loaded with big names

By Dan Ambrose: The undercard of the September 10th fight between WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO’s) vs. challenger Tomas Adamek (44-1, 28 KO’s) isn’t one that is loaded with stars or recognizable fighters to the typical boxing fan for the fight that takes place at the Stadion Miejski, Wroclaw, Poland. It looks as if they loaded the card with guys that Polish boxing fans will recognize more so than the worldwide public.

I can’t say impressed with the card at all, even the main event. It’s loaded with fighters I’ve never heard of and the main event is a mismatch. Vitali is going to destroy Adamek. This fight reminds me of Vitali’s bout against Albert Sosnowski last year where Vitali toyed with Sosnowski until destroying him in the 10th. I see the same thing happening here. Adamek is a lot more recognizable than Sosnowski to world wide boxing fans because of the titles he won at light heavyweight and cruiserweight, but it’s just as much of a mismatch if you ask me.

What makes me suspicious of fights like this is when I see a guy like Adamek facing mostly old guys leading up to the title shot. That always makes my spider sense tingle when I see nothing but careful match making leading up to a fighter getting a shot at a title. Come on, look at the guys Adamek has fought: Andrew Golota, 42, Kevin McBride, 38, Michael Grant, 38 and Vinny Maddalone, 36. What does that tell you?

Here is what we got for the card:

Pawel Kolodziej vs. Ola Afolabi
Mateusz Masternak vs. TBA
Andrzej Wawrzyk vs. Devin Vargas
Maksym Bursak vs. TBA
Sadam Ali vs. Boris Berg
Mariusz Cendrowski vs. Bernard Donfack

As much as this fight is going to make big money for both Vitali and Adamek, you’d think they would put a really nice undercard with it. I’m sorry, but I really don’t like this undercard at all. I don’t see it pleasing world wide audiences.
