Is Pacquiao pushing Mayweather away with his defamation lawsuit?

Image: Is Pacquiao pushing Mayweather away with his defamation lawsuit?By Chris Williams: I don’t quite understand why Manny Pacquiao is suing Floyd Mayweather Jr for defamation while still supposedly wanting to fight him. Isn’t Pacquiao making it less likely that Mayweather would want to fight him by suing the guy? It seems to me that suing someone isn’t going to make them want to fight you.

I suppose if Pacquiao can get a huge judgement of $10 million or so, he could hurt Mayweather enough to the point where he would take a fight with Pacquiao just to get the money to pay him. However, that could work against Pacquiao, because Mayweather can make big money fighting pretty much anyone. He’s in the same boat at Pacquiao in that respect.

We’ve seen Pacquiao making big money against guys like Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito, two fighters that aren’t huge draws. Mayweather can surely the same thing and for long period of time. Unlike Pacquiao, Mayweather doesn’t take a lot of punishment in his fights. He barely gets hit. But I don’t understand the strategy of suing someone that you’re having problems trying to get a fight against. That seems to me like Pacquiao is saying one that – that he wants to fight Mayweather – but then pushing him away with a lawsuit that could cost Mayweather a huge amount of money if he loses.

Do you think Mayweather will still want to fight Pacquiao is he loses a legal case to him? I think Pacquiao is going about getting a fight with Mayweather the wrong way. It seems to me that if you want to fight him, you don’t sue him. Is it me or does that just not make sense? Like I was trying to get a girl, I wouldn’t sue her. I would be acting as nice as possible. Suing her would turn her off. I know it’s different here, but suing Mayweather doesn’t seem like the smart thing to do if you want to fight.

What also is really odd is how many of Pacquiao’s loyal fans who are behind him in wanting Mayweather to lose money on the defamation case. Yet these same fans are angry that Mayweather isn’t fighting Pacquiao. That’s weird to me.

And for that matter, I don’t think it’s wise for Pacquiao’s promoter not to go along with what Mayweather wants as for as the testing for performance enhancing drugs. Mayweather wants the USADA to do the testing for a fight against Pacquiao, while Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum doesn’t have much faith in that agency and wants the WADA to do the testing. Come on, do you want the Mayweather fight or not?
