Hatton defeats Abramenka
By Scott Gilfoid: To no great surprise, Matthew Hatton (42-5-2, 16 KO’s) defeated little known fighter Andrei Abramenka (15-1-2, 3 KO’s) by a 12 round decision on Friday night to capture the vacant IBF International welterweight title at the Tower circus in Blackpool, England. I’ve never heard of Abrahmenka before this fight, and not sure where Hatton dug him up to capture this little known title.
Good matchmaking in finding him. Hatton wants to fight WBA welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko next. It would be sad if this is all it would take to get a crack at Senchenko’s title. Too bad Hatton didn’t fight someone that boxing fans had heard of before. Finding little known guys with inflated records like Abrahamenka is the wrong way to go after a major title in my view. Hatton was said to have been on a lean diet of kangaroo meat while training for this fight. This is too much. Eating kangaroo meat to defeat some little known fighter with only three knockouts on his record. Might as well have gorged himself on steak and potatoes three times a day and we’d have likely gotten the same results if not better.
