Image: Fury: Ortiz will be another one of Mayweather's victimsBy Sean McDaniel: British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is going with unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr (41-0, 25 KO’s) to beat World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KO’s) on September 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fury is quite familiar with the American fight scene and likes what he sees in Mayweather for this fight.

Here is what Fury had to say about the Mayweather-Ortiz fight at East Side Boxing: “I see Ortiz going down as another one of his [Mayweather] victim’s to be honest, because Mayweather is in a different league really to Victor Ortiz. Victor Ortiz is a very good man. He’s a world champion. I give him a lot of credit as a fighter, but a good boxer will always beat a good fighter. Victor Ortiz is a good fighter, but Mayweather is a super phenomenal boxer and I do believe Mayweather will outbox him quite easily.”

I tend to agree with Fury. Ortiz is a very good fighter, but still inexperienced against upper level opposition. Mayweather is the best of the best, and he’s proven it over and over again throughout the years against quality fighters. Ortiz is still just starting out and is only now cutting his teeth on really good opposition. He’s probably going to find that he’s not ready for a fighter in the class of Mayweather.

Mayweather is reportedly using former junior middleweight champion Kassim Ouma as one of his sparring partners. Ouma is a southpaw like Ortiz and should give Mayweather some help in getting ready for what Ortiz will be bringing to the ring in this fight in September.

Mayweather hasn’t fought since beating Shane Mosley last year in May. Mayweather was rocked early in that fight by a hard right hand from Mosley, but was able to quickly recovered and took control of the fight.

Ortiz beat Andre Berto in April to claim the WBC strap in a fight where both Berto and Ortiz were knocked down twice.
