Floyd Mayweather involved in another lawsuit

By John F. McKenna (McJack): Undefeated boxing superstar Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25 KO’s) has been named in another lawsuit brought against him by a private citizen. Mayweather will be making his return to the ring after a sixteen month hiatus when he meets World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Victor “Vicious” Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KO’s) on September 17 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The latest lawsuit has been brought against Mayweather by former friend Quincy Williams. In the suit Williams alleges that Floyd had a bodyguard shoot at his vehicle at a skating rink in Las Vegas.

Bodyguard Ocie Harris is now facing attempted murder charges over the incident. Williams alleges that prior to the shooting there had been an altercation over a text message he had sent to Mayweather stating that he hoped Floyd would lose an upcoming fight.

During the initial investigation Mayweather and Harris denied knowing each other. Video’s in Floyd’s residence however, showed Harris in his house where he appeared to be working along with Mayweather’s security team. Harris is scheduled to go on trial in February for attempted murder.

Last year Williams alleged that Mayweather attempted to run his car off the road. After an investigation by the Las Vegas police those charges were dropped.

A suit brought against Mayweather last year by a bouncer was dropped. In that case the bouncer was allegedly accosted by one of Floyd’s bodyguards outside a Las Vegas nightclub when he asked for ID.

In some cases Floyd may be right when he claims that he is targeted by people who see him as an easy way to make a quick buck without working for it.

The criminal charges brought against Mayweather by former girlfriend Josie Harris are still ongoing as is the defamation lawsuit against him by Manny Pacquiao.

To his credit Floyd Mayweather has been able to separate and compartmentalize his public and private life thus far. His performance in the ring has not been affected and he has been cool as a cucumber at the press conferences hyping his upcoming fight with Victor Ortiz.

Many fighters cannot handle the distractions when preparing for a fight. Floyd on the other hand seems to thrive in that environment.
