Chambers-Thompson will be fighting in an IBF heavyweight title eliminator bout at the Bally’s Event Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The winner of the fight will become the mandatory challenger for IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s IBF strap. Both fighters have already been knocked out and really they’re basically deciding which guy gets the good payday in losing again to Wladimir.

They obviously want to beat Wladimir but lack the talent to get the job done. So what we have here is two guys looking to become the next victim for Wlad. However, it will be great if Showtime picks up the Chambers vs. Thompson fight because boxing fans would like to see this fight. Chambers is one of the best heavyweights in the division and has won once since losing to Wladimir.

Chambers defeated Derric Rossy by a 12 round decision last February. That was more of a test to see where Chambers was after suffering a brutal knockout loss to Wladimir last year in March 2010. Thompson, 39, is fighting well and has won five times since his 11th round TKO loss to Wladimir in 2008. The southpaw Thompson fought Wladimir a lot better than any heavyweight has since Wladimir fought Samuel Peter for the first time in 2005.

However, Thompson hasn’t faced anyone tough since the Wladimir loss. His best wins since then have come against Chazz Witherspoon, Owen Beck and Maurice Harris. If Thompson can add Chambers’ name to his resume that would be a huge plus for him. The the 6’5″ 255 pound Thompson will have a big advantage in size against the 6’1″ 208 pound Chambers, and that could be enough for Thompson to generate a win.
