Image: Chances are slim McCloskey makes it to the 4th round against PrescottBy Scott Gilfoid: In one of the bigger mismatches in recent years, knockout artist Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s) is being handed a little snack in the form of Irish fighter Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) on September 10th. The winner of the fight takes on WBA light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana in a fight that will likely be shown on HBO. McCloskey, however, isn’t going to be the one that ends up facing Maidana.

Let’s get that out in the open right away. McCloskey is basically doomed man, he’s heading into a super comet and is going to obliterated beyond recognition by the powerful Prescott. The only question I have is whether it’s a 1st round knockout or a KO that comes a little later.

No way is this fight going past four rounds. That’s not going to happen. This is going to be like a replay of Julian Jackson vs. Terry Norris where Prescott chases the rabbit-like McCloskey around the ring and catches him with a single shot that will knock him completely out. There isn’t going to be any competitiveness to this fight. It’s going to be McCloskey initially trying to fight, and quickly realizing the doesn’t have the chin to stand up to Prescott’s shots.

It’s like when you stick your hand in hot water and realize it’s too hot and you immediately pull your hand away from the heat. This is what McCloskey will do, except he won’t get a second chance to try that hot water again because Prescott will chase him down and blast him apart in front of McCloskey’s fellow countryman at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

It’s going to be a total slaughter. It’s too bad McCloskey doesn’t have his eyes wide enough to see what’s stacked up against him. I guess he’s been watching too many replays of Prescott’s fight against Kevin Mitchell from 2009 and thinks he can survive by running the way Mitchell did. That was the old Prescott. The new one would easily out-point Mitchell if he decided to run again and knock him out if he tried to fight.
