Wladimir says he’ll be making a decision on his next opponent soon

By Sean McDaniel: IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KO’s) says he’s going on a trip to Moscow, Russia, Kiev, Ukraine and New York and following that trip he will be sitting down to make a decision about who his next opponent will be.

Recently, Wladimir has mentioned the follow fighters as ones he’s considering for his next fight: Chris Arreola, Alexander Povetkin and Dereck Chisora. Wladimir won’t likely be facing former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye because he beat him convincingly enough to the point where few boxing are asking for this fight, even though Haye is still likely the most popular opponent out there that Wladimir can fight.

Haye wants a rematch but he’s going to have to either work for it by taking on some quality fighters or else wait until Wladimir has beaten two or three fighters. Maybe by then he’ll be in the mood to go over old ground and face Haye for a second time.

The options aren’t really good for Wladimir right now for him to get a good opponent. Povetkin doesn’t have a fan base in the U.S, and is small for a heavyweight. He would likely get easily beaten by Wladimir. Arreola has more fans in the U.S., but he’s already been beaten by Wladimir’s brother Vitali and he showed in that fight that he doesn’t have the size or quickness needed to beat the Klitschkos.

Chisora would be a good option if the fight takes place in the UK. It would likely draw well over there. However, Chisora might not get by Tyson Fury in their fight on July 23 and Wladimir won’t be facing Fury because he needs more time to develop.
