Image: Vitali wants a crack at HayeBy Eric Thomas: Klitschko manager Bernd Bonte made it 100% clear that a rematch between IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye is not going to happen. Bonte says Wladimir is moving on to other fighters in the division.

However, Bonte did say that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko would like nothing better than to take on Haye either at the end of the year or next year if Haye sticks around and knock him out. This may not be the fight that Haye wants, but at least he would be facing one of the Klitschko brothers and would be assured of a huge payday.

Haye is the type that likes to get a lot of attention by taking on well known fighters. Vitali is a lot more popular than the guys that Haye was fighting before he took on Wladimir recently. This would be a big fight for Haye and a second chance for him. If he beats Vitali, he’s got a new start and boxing fans will have forgotten all about his embarrassing loss to Wladimir. At the same time, Haye would then get his rematch with Wladimir because he’ll step in and show Vitali how it’s done by trying to duplicate his performance against Haye last time.

There has been mixed messages from Haye. On one hand, he’s talking about wanting to continue his career and not go out like this, and on the other he’s saying he still plans on retiring on October 13th. He’s got two conflicting goals and something has to give.
