Prescott to prove his KO win over Khan was no fluke by destroying McCloskey

Image: Prescott to prove his KO win over Khan was no fluke by destroying McCloskeyBy Scott Gilfoid: Arguably the biggest puncher in light welterweight division Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s) will be looking to add another scalp to his resume on September 10th against Ireland’s Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) in a WBA light welterweight title eliminator bout at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern, Ireland. I personally see Prescott annihilating McCloskey in an easy knockout win.

A victory here by Prescott will show that his 1st round knockout of Amir Khan in 2008 wasn’t just an accident. Prescott’s domination of Khan was because he was the better fighter, and Prescott will show that by destroying McCloskey, a fighter that gave Khan fits last April. Khan blamed the Prescott loss to being weakened from making the lightweight 135 pound limit and by having weak legs.

It’s pretty ridiculous if you think about it. Khan got knocked out because he got hit by a hard shot and didn’t have the chin to take it. Now Prescott is going to do the same thing for McCloskey on September 10th except that McCloskey won’t be crazy enough to actually try and exchange with Prescott. McCloskey will be thinking defense all the way and looking just not to get hit. The best I can see is McCloskey trying to slip in a sneaky left hand every once in a while as he falls far behind in the fight. His fans will be screaming for every missed punch, and making it seem as if he’s doing better than he really is.

I wouldn’t surprised if McCloskey is out-landed 8-1 by Prescott and still being given rounds. But it doesn’t matter, though, because Prescott will knock McCloskey out cold, taking away the judges in this fight. There won’t be a questionable decision in this fight, because McCloskey won’t be standing to see the final bell.

What I like about the McCloskey-Prescott fight is that boxing fans will be able to see the difference between Khan and Prescott. With Khan just having fought McCloskey and looked terrible in the fight, we now get to see Khan’s conqueror Prescott show what he can do to McCloskey. It’s going to be sickening how badly Prescott whips McCloskey. Think of it as a world class fighter taking on a 2nd tier guy with no power.

It’s going to be a huge mismatch and even if McCloskey runs for his life, he’s still going to get knocked cold when Prescott finally catches to him and lands one of his big shots. It might not even take a power shot for Prescott to knock McCloskey out. I can see him stopping McCloskey with a jab. Heck, Prescott was able to stagger Khan with only a jab, and Prescott does have the best jab in the light welterweight division by far.
