Khan proves he is a true contender for the pound for pound crown

By Dallan O’ Donnell: Amir Khan shocked the boxing world for the second consecutive fight in Vegas after he completely destroyed Zab Judah. Khan was far too quick for Judah and the awkward South paw stance of Judah seemed to have no effect on Khan. It was a near perfect display of dominance by Khan who was never hurt at any stage of the fight despite taking one or two heavy shots from Judah.

After this victory over Judah, Khan now holds both the World Boxing Association (WBA) and IBF light welterweight titles and is considered by most people the best fighter at 140 pounds despite Tim Bradley’s presence. The fight began at a blistering pace, a pace which never slowed throughout the fight as Khans work rate told the story of the first rounds. His speed troubled Judah, who is usually the quickest fighter in the ring.

An accidental Head butt by Khan on Judah left massive swelling around Judah’s right eye and that became the target of Khans left hook. Whenever Judah looked to plant his feet Khan quickly popped him with a stinging lightning quick jab or the left hook which had a profound effect on Zab who came forward less and less. Judah never wanted to engage with Khan at any stage and had lost every round clearly when the end came in the fifth round as Khan threw a perfect body shot, which Zab claimed was low.

The referee counted Judah out who at the end of the fight claimed that he thought the referee was giving him time to recover after the apparent low blow and didn’t know the referee was actually counting him out. Replays showed that it was a brilliant shot By Khan and was in no way low. My guess would be that Judah wanted no more from Khan and stayed down.

Anyone who claims it was a low blow however is either a Huge Zab Judah fan or a complete idiot. Khan has been talking up a possible clash with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Next year and with the way Khan is fighting you can’t really say he doesn’t deserve the huge pay day and chance to etch his name onto the coveted pound for pound list.

Mayweather faces Victor Ortiz next but is open to fighting Khan at Wembley sometime next year. Khan may be fighting the best he has ever fought but maybe Mayweather would be his downfall. It would be close for a short time but in my opinion nobody but Manny Pacquaio can beat Mayweather and vice versa.

Khan has options and would be brave to take on Mayweather but a fight I would like to see is Khan versus Robert Guerrero, who is taking on Marcos Maidana next for a version of Khans WBA title and I fully expect the man nicknamed ‘the ghost’ to win and he would be a test for Khan. Whatever Khan chooses to do next is his choice but my advice is simple fight twice more before taking on Mayweather.
