Khan-Judah around the same size = Not good a thing for Khan

Image: Khan-Judah around the same size = Not good a thing for KhanBy Sean McDaniel: Amir Khan and Zab Judah will both be roughly around the same size in tonight’s light welterweight unification fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s not a good sign for Khan, though, because if you look at the fights that he’s dominated and then looked at the ones he’s struggled in, Khan usually does well against guys that he’s a lot bigger than.

However, with Judah, Khan will be the smaller fighter in terms of reach and only slightly taller by around one inch. Khan’s so-called size advantage against Judah may not be enough for him to carry the day, because Judah will have the reach to touch Khan with his power shots and beat Khan to the punch. If the fast-handed Judah can hit Khan, he can knock him out.

This could be a big problem for Khan in this fight, and hopefully his trainer Freddie Roach has been astute enough to recognize that Khan won’t have any real size advantage like he’s been accustomed to. Khan has only fought five times since moving up to the light welterweight division from lightweight, and those opponents have all been smaller than him, and for the most part, weaker as well.

Judah won’t be much smaller and he certainly won’t be weaker. This might not go well for Khan. If he has go depend on his chin to carry him through to victory tonight, I just don’t know if he’ll be able to pull off the win. Contrary to what Khan says about his chin being “One of the best in boxing,” it’s really not. He’s vulnerable to getting hurt when he’s hit hard and if Judah is able to reach Khan with his longer reach, we could see Khan get knocked out tonight.
