Image: Khan defeats Judah with a beautiful textbook low blowBy Scott Gilfoid: I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a beautiful low blow like the one WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-1, 18 KO’s) finished off IBF light welterweight champion Zab Judah (41-7, 28 KO’s) with last night in Las Vegas. It was like textbook version of a low blow. I could give a class on this along with slides on how beautiful that low blow was in Khan taking out Judah in the 5th. God, what a priceless low blow that was.

For boxing fans that didn’t see the shot in slow motion, Khan grabbed Judah with his left hand, and shoved his head downward, which isn’t legal, and then while shoving his head with his left, Khan then landed a peach of a right hand below decks, sending Judah to the canvas.

Either the referee didn’t see it or felt that it within the legal limits. But, God, what a beauty of a low blow! Khan really shined on that one, and to get away with shoving Judah’s down in the same sequence. It was like Khan got away with two fouls at the same time in stopping Judah. I mean, it wasn’t the first time that Khan grabbed Judah around the back of the head and shoved him downwards. I saw Khan doing that four or five times in the fight without being penalized. He also did this move over and over again in his win over Marcos Maidana. It’s a move where Khan grabs his victim around the back of the head and then forces him forwards and down.

When the fighter is straightening up, Khan sometimes adds a little love tap to the midsection or the head. It’s so bad. If I were Judah’s trainer Pernell Whitaker, I would have been apoplectic last night. They would have had to carry me out with straight jack on and muzzle because I would have been barking nonstop. Khan shouldn’t been able to get away with shoving Judah’s head forward and he certainly shouldn’t have got away with the low blow.

As such, I have to say the victory tainted in my eyes. I can’t count it even though Judah looked terrible beyond belief. I applaud Khan’s team for their good matchmaking in this case. They picked an old lion without his teeth, and yet Khan still messed it up with the fouling. Man, how can you blow it when you got an old guy just begging to be put out of his misery like Judah? Looks like Khan found a way with his love tap south of the border.
