Image: Haye to make decision about his future in next three weeksBy William Mackay: David Haye says he’s going to decide on what he plans on doing for his future in the next three weeks. Haye said he needs time for his broken little toe to heal and he will then decide whether to carry on or quit, according to an interview at the BBC. Haye he was the one responsible for making the fight a huge event, and felt that he did a good job of selling tickets.

In that respect Haye did do a very good job. He’s an excellent promoter if not a excellent fighter. However, he failed to fight as hard as he needed to in order to make it an exciting fight.

Haye said “I wish I could have done more than I did…The biggest reason [he lost] is he’s a brilliant fighter. The reason for the loss is he’s very good. The reason I underperformed was the broken toe.”

Haye said he plans on getting out of boxing on October 13th of this year, but that he would love a rematch with Wladimir before then. That’s not going to happen, as Wladimir’s manager announced that Wladimir won’t be fighting Haye next and that Vitali Klitschko wants to fight him. Haye said “He [Wladimir] said he can knock me out and I’d love him to give it a go.”

If Haye makes a decision soon he’ll have to count out Wladimir and focus on someone else. Haye might not want to wait around to fight Vitali next year or he may not want to fight Vitali at all. In that case, Haye will have to look for a suitable opponent to get a nice farewell payday against in the UK. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of interesting options out there for Haye. Wladimir is already looking at facing the winner of Tyson Fury vs. Dereck Chisora, and that’s really only other interesting fight that Haye be involved with unless he wanted to step up and take on Vitali. Wladimir is in the better position to get the Chisora-Fury winner than Haye by virtue of his dominating performance over Haye and because he holds three of the four title belts. Haye is coming off of a loss and not exactly an in demand fighter right now. Haye should take on Vitali, but it’s understandable why he might not want to.

Haye said this about the some of the things that went on before and during the Klitschko fight: “We had a dodgy referee that let him get away with all sorts of infringements. They also sent me down through the crowd instead of down a barricaded ringwalk. I was getting trampled by people.”
