Haye to make decision about his career soon

By William Mackay: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) is expected to make an announcement about what he’s going to be doing with his career in week or two. With IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko showing zero interest in wanting to give Haye an immediate rematch, Haye is likely to make good on his threat to retire from boxing on October 13th when he turns 31-years-old.

But never fear, it’s likely to be one of those short term bogus retirements that really are more of a long vacation. Even if Haye does retire, he’ll likely be back in six to seven months when Wladimir is suddenly showing interest in fighting him again.

It’s sad and kind of pathetic that Haye won’t earn his way back into a rematch with Wladimir by beating a couple of good contenders like Chris Arreola and Denis Boytsov, but Haye doesn’t want any part of having to work for a rematch. He wants it handed to him. It’s a pity because the boxing public will see a rematch between Wladimir and Haye as a money grab, a fight put together just to milk the public of money.

That’s an unavoidable reality when you have a fighter that was dominated like Haye just sitting around asking for a rematch but showing no inclination to try and redeem himself by fighting some quality fighters to show fans that he’s looking to improve. Haye needs to fight at least two really good fighters and beat them before asking for a rematch with Wladimir. But he’s not going to do that. Haye will sit and wait until Wladimir hands him a rematch, and we’re then going to see an ugly scenario where Wladimir beats Haye even worse than he did the first time around with the result being that Wladimir turns off boxing fans. If Wladimir is smart, he’ll avoid all of this by telling Haye to go fly a kite if he wants a rematch. Let him earn one the way normal fighters do.
