Haye: My bad toe was trampled on while I was doing my ringwalk
By William Mackay: David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) was unhappy that he had to walk to the ring through a massive hoard of what appeared to be his own loyal British boxing fans while he was doing his ring walk on Saturday in his losing effort against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.
Haye said that people were trampling on his bad right little toe before the fight even got underway. Haye feels that he was purposely directed to go straight through the crowd, which was in frenzy at the sight of Haye, instead of having him walk through a barricaded area the way that Wladimir did during his ring walk.
Haye said this to the daily express: “I had people trampling on my toe on the way to the ring. Why didn’t they send us the right way through the barricades? They did it to unsettle me?”
It sounds like Haye is making another excuse. The fans were his fans, and this shouldn’t have been something that would seriously unsettle him. From what I could see, Haye only got pushed a little when one of the fans tried to hug him. It wasn’t like he was being attacked by angry German fans. These appeared to be Haye’s British fans who were excited at being so near the fighter that they had traveled far to see.
