Guerrero vs. Maidana bout just became more interesting with Prescott-McCloskey bout picking a mandatory challenger
By Jason Kim: The August 27th fight between Robert Guerrero (29-1-1, 18 KO’s) and WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (30-2, 27 KO’s) just became more interesting with the news that Breidis Prescott will be facing Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) in an WBA title eliminator bout against Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s) on September 10th.
The winner of that fight will be the mandatory for the Maidana-Guerrero fight. Guerrero and Maidana will be fighting for Amir Khan’s World Boxing Association light welterweight title after the WBA made Khan a Super World champion and designated that his WBA title is now vacant.
A fight between the Maidana-Guerrero winner and the Prescott-McCloskey winner could a very interesting fight, especially if Maidana and Prescott come out on top in their fights. Guerrero is an exciting fighter as well, but the hard hitting Maidana has already proven himself to having one of the most exciting fighting styles in boxing with his bouts against Khan, Victor Ortiz and Victor Cayo.
Prescott would be an interesting fighter if he ends up winning all of this because it would put Khan in an uncomfortable position where he would have to make a decision whether to fight him again or not. Prescott already knocked Khan out in the 1st round three years ago. Khan may not acknowledge this, but he would be under a ton of pressure to fight Prescott if he ends up on top.
