By Sean McDaniel: Unbeaten British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) has been letting challenger Tyson Fury (14-0, 10 KO’s) do all the heavy lifting to generate excitement for this Saturday’s fight between them in Liverpool.
Chisora is letting Fury explode on the media with his mouth, but Chisora plans on shutting Fury up once and for all on Saturday by knocking him out. Chisora is predicting a stoppage by the 9th round and sees the fight as being an exciting bout – a fight much better than the David Haye vs. Wladimir Klitschko bout that took place recently in Hamburg, Germany.
“It’s going to be a very good scalp on my record, because he’s at 14 and I have 14 and we’re unbeaten fighters,” Chisora said to eastsideboxing.com’s On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
Despite all the talking that Fury has been doing, Chisora doesn’t hate him and isn’t angry with him in the least. He thinks he doing a good job of generating interest in their fight. Fury is naturally outgoing and not as measured with his words as Chisora. Fury just lets his mouth go and whatever comes out it’s all good.
Chisora won’t reveal what he’s going to be doing to deal with the 6’9” Fury’s huge height advantage in the fight. The only thing that Chisora is saying is that he’s going to knock him out. However, there’s not much mystery about what Chisora will be doing. He always fights in the same way, and that’s boring in on his opponents to let his fists fly.
Chisora is a high pressure fighter and likes to get in close and throw a lot of leather. He’s the worst type of opponent for Fury to fight, because Fury had problems in two past fights against John McDermott, who gave Fury fits by pounding him at close range. Chisora is a lot better fighter on the inside than McDermott and it’s going to be interesting to see how Fury will be able to handle this.
Fury has a new trainer but it’s unclear how fast he can learn to deal with a pressure fighter like Chisora. It may be that Fury isn’t ready for this kind of fighter at this early stage in his career. Never the less, it will be a good learning tool for Fury whether he comes out on top or not.
