Can Haye talk his way into another fight with the Klitschkos?

Image: Can Haye talk his way into another fight with the Klitschkos?By William Mackay: David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) lost his WBA heavyweight crown earlier tonight to IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KO’s) in a 12 round unanimous decision loss in Hamburg, Germany. After the fight Haye revealed that he had broken his little toe on his right foot three weeks earlier and the injury had prevented Haye from pushing off on the leg when he was trying to throw his right hands.

Haye still seemed to throw a lot of punches with his fight, but the problem was that Wladimir did a good job of making Haye miss with his shots. All total, Haye only averages six punches connected per round for the 12 round and toe or no toe, he just looked too small and not skilled enough to win the fight.

We don’t really know whether Haye will retire now. He had been talking about wanting to get out of boxing on his 31st birthday in October, but there’s no telling what Haye will do now. He probably won’t like the idea of his last fight of his career being his poor effort against Wladimir tonight. But at the same time if he fights anyone other than the Klitschko brothers he won’t get a lot of credit, respect or attention from boxing fans.

Wladimir exposed Haye tonight for being a limited pot shot fighter who doesn’t like to get hit and who will do anything not to get hit by running around the ring. As such, will Haye and try and make a case for himself that he deserves a rematch with Wladimir or a fight against his brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko? I think we might see that, although probably not with Wladimir.

There wasn’t enough of an effort on Haye’s part to create any controversy in tonight’s bout. If anything, it just showed Haye to be someone that talks a lot of trash but when it comes to backing it up, he’s not interested in doing that. If Haye goes on a huge media campaign where he calls out Vitali 24/7, I could see Haye getting a fight with Vitali, but Haye will have to forget about retiring in October.

Haye will have to stick around to 2012 and wait until Vitali deals with Polish heavyweight Tomasz Adamek in September. Haye needs to forget about Wladimir because I don’t think the boxing public could stomach another fight between the two because this one was boring and Haye didn’t do well against Wladimir’s style of fighting.
