Image: The most proven ‘current’ Champion in boxing – Carl Froch: Enjoy him whilst he’s here!By Jon Neale: I have not published an article on Boxingnews24 for some months but I think someone needs to address the Fighter that is Carl Froch with a realistic approach and conclusion. For too long has this forum been a place of worthless ranting and biased diatribes relating to personal, national and yes, even racial preference. The sport/art of Boxing is something that should be respected and appreciated. Any man who has the courage to enter a ring to battle a fellow human being in any fighting technique or style should be given the respect they deserve. My preferred combative sport is Boxing, and I imagine it is yours as well if you are reading this article and visiting this site…

On Saturday night Carl Froch fought Glen Johnson in Atlantic City in the Semi-Finals of the much heralded (and slated) Super-Six tournament. Firstly, I would like to point out that this tournament HAS, in fact, been a success, even though there have been teething problems and promotional challenges along the way. The idea behind this tourney and it’s structure is sound and for once, pits our favourite and most respected fighters (Lucian Bute not included) at the Super Middle-weight level. This is a yard-stick event(s) which all future Boxing tournaments’ should be judged by, and now we have a final with two of the original participants and arguably the two best participants which we can all look forward to!

On Saturday night Carl Froch fought a career light-heavyweight in Glen Johnson and negotiated the challenge with relative ease. Glen Johnson is a proud and respectful man and an awesome veteran/champion of the sport with some of the biggest names of the last 15 years of boxing on his Resume. Glen brought a true Champions mentality to the ring but was unable to beat the Nottingham, England based Fighter as he was up against a man with arguably as good a chin, 9 years less ware on the tyres and an ability to adapt his tactics whilst responding to being hit with almost superhuman nonchalance. Carl Froch is a fighters fighter, you only need to have had listened to Antonio Tarver’s pre, present and post-fight commentary and praise to believe that. The sport is littered with Fighter’s that acknowledge and respect the achievements of Carl Froch. His past 6 fights stand testament to the man’s willingness to enter the ring with Champions and 5 out of those 6 times walk away victorious. Before some the writer’s on this site who may read this article post a comment proclaiming the Dirrell fight to have been a robbery, don’t bother. It was close, but could have gone either way, a fact that is mirrored in the result after the Kessler fight (could have gone either way). Carl Froch has fought anyone, anywhere and is now due to meet Ward in the Final of the Super-Six in the UK (only joking, it’s in the US of course!). Regardless of who wins, and at this stage I can’t pick a winner (although my heart would suggest Froch will find a way to make Ward very uncomfortable…) I think this is an excellent conclusion to magnificent concept.

As far as Boxing is concerned, if there were more Fighters out there with the true grit, determination, heart and toughness that so epitomises Carl ‘the Cobra’ Froch then we’d be a little more inclined towards paying our PPV costs when the ‘so called’ BIG fights occur! I for one will pay whatever is asked of me to either attend or at very least subscribe to the Super Six final. Enjoy him whilst he lasts, Carl Froch is a rare breed in the fight game and given the shape of the sport at the moment possibly an endangered one as well.

Peace. JN
