Image: Rhodes-Alvarez: Code Red: Attack!By Peter Wells: Photo: Leopoldo Gonzalez – On first seeing this match up made many used the term ‘mis-match’ but after weeks of preparation many are starting to believe that this may well be Saul Alvarez’s toughest fight to date. The gritty Sheffield man is coming to win after a long career it seems he’s finally started to live to his potential. Canelo knows that his opponent is hungry, and that always makes a fighter more dangerous.

It has been over 13 years since Ryan Rhodes missed out on his chance to clinch the World Boxing Organization (WBO) middleweight title, but the shot came too early and the more experienced Otis Grant squeaked out a close decision. And his last defeat came nearly 5 years ago when challenging Gary Lockett for the World Boxing Union (WBU) middleweight title. After a good time spent at Middleweight he was only defeated twice by knockout and Light Middleweight seems to have suited him much better winning his last 4 by knockout.

As for Alvarez after 37 fights he has been brought up as a star and Mexico have adored him and being at home for this fight gives him a huge advantage and any close rounds will go to the home favourite. Despite an uninspiring display last time out against Matthew Hatton he will be much better prepared and will more than likely put in a better display.

There surely will be some exciting patches in this contest and there may be some boring patches as well but a special finish could be on the cards. My heart says Rhodes but my heads leans towards Alvarez but like with your favourite football team no matter how unlikely it looks that your team will win you will always say they will win. And for this fight it’s no different so I’m going to say Rhodes will pull off a huge upset.
