One of Haye’s team members labels Steward a cheater

By William Mackay: In what appears to be more gamesmanship from WBA heavyweight champion David Haye’s camp one of his camp members Paddy Fitzpatrick reportedly indicated that Wladimir’s trainer Emanuel Steward had cheated in the past when wrapping the hands of Wladimir before his first fight against Lamon Brewster way back in 2004. Wladimir was stopped in the 5th round in that fight, and Fitzpatrick was a member of Brewster’s team.

An argument broke out at Monday’s press conference between Wladimir and Haye in Hamburg, Germany with a lot of pushing going on.

According to the dailystar.co.uk, Fitzpatrick said “I was in the room and I know what I saw.”

What’s unclear is why Fitzpatrick waited this long to start making a fuss out of it. He could have been complaining about this long and hard when the fight was first announced instead of waiting until the final press conference to start speaking on it. His timing makes it seem like it’s a calculated move to try and throw both Steward and Wladimir off so that Haye can get an extra edge to maybe win the fight. Goodness knows, Haye needs any edge he can get to try and the fight because he’s much smaller and only has one weapon to compete with Wladimir – his right hand.

Steward immediately responded back to Fitzpatrick, saying “Who is this clown? I have never seen him before in my life.”

Haye might have to come up with some better tricks than this if he’s going to get enough of an edge to be competitive on Saturday night. Hopefully, his team have been teaching him how to block a jab because he’s going to be getting nailed with a lot of them by Wladimir.
