Image: McCloskey: Judah has a good chance of beating KhanBy William Mackay: Recently beaten light welterweight contender Paul McCloskey is giving IBF light welterweight champ Zab Judah (41-6, 28 KO’s) an excellent chance of beating WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (25-1, 17 Ko’s) when they meet up next month on July 23 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Speaking on his twitter site, McCloskey said this about Khan and Judah: “Amir queen Khan, don’t you think you should be concentrating on your next opponent – you fool – instead of b**ching about me? I believe Zab has a new lease on life under Pernell Whitaker and do believe he has a very good chance of winning.”

McCloskey is responding back to Khan because of some comments Khan recently said about McCloskey where Khan described McCloskey as the “easiest” and “slowest” fighter he’s been up against. However, those statements reflect more on Khan than McCloskey, because it was already apparent that McCloskey had little hand speed before Khan ever fought him. It makes you wonder why Khan chose to fight someone that he didn’t have a lot of respect for. Khan could have faced Breidis Prescott last April or Marcos Maidana instead of McCloskey. Few fans outside of Ireland wanted to see Khan face the little known McCloskey, because they saw it as a mismatch. And that’s exactly what it turned out to be, except that it wasn’t only a mismatch but a boring one that made Khan look bad because of all the missing he was doing with his shots. McCloskey was Khan’s opponent, and he’s partly to blame for agreeing to fight this guy instead of someone more entertaining like Prescott or Maidana.

McCloskey lost a fight with Khan last month after suffering a small cut over his left eye in the 6th. McCloskey feels he would have won the fight, as Khan looked to be tiring out at missing so often with his shots. Since then, McCoskey has asked for a rematch but with no luck. Khan said that if McCloskey wants a rematch, he should fight and beat all the guys that Khan has beaten during his six year pro career.
