Mayweather vs. Ortiz: Is Floyd ducking Pacquiao? – Pt 3

By Glenn Findlay: If he’s side-stepped the superlative in their primes such as power-house pressure cookers like Cotto and Margarito; what makes any sane boxing enthusiast actually pre-suppose he’s going to take on a fighter twice as superior as these guys.

Manny Pacquiao is at the high-point, pinnacle summit of his commanding supremacy; the blurring double fists of fury mixed with multi-dimensioned angles and whirlwind speed.

Confronting him in the ring must be like stepping foot into a high-octane twister in the midst of a volcanic eruption; the guy is a vigorous force of nature. The question that is lingering over this whole entire mess is…why didn’t Floyd Mayweather negotiate or at least have a stab at negotiating and collaborating this fight with Manny in recent months instead of Ortiz? As simple as that. Let your own common sense prevail and arrive at a judgement. I don’t have to spell it out anymore do I? Sometimes all the dollars in the world isn’t worth the loss of ego to defeat by the peoples champion; thereby we have the undertaken $40 million Ortiz over the feasible $100 million dangling carrot of the sadistic melee that is Manny Pacquiao.

If Mayweather crosses the auditorium threshold of the boxing ring in September…then retires for another sixteen months; Manny himself could well be retired before Floyd re-visits the public eye. If not, Pacquiao’s trademark rapid-speed and twelve round endless stamina will be diminishing; Floyd (knowledgeably wise as he is) clearly discerns this and also fully comprehends his one-stance pot-shotting, aged thirty five will not ebb and fade as rapidly as Pacquiao’s legendary twelve round onslaughts of vivacity that at thirty four; he will not be able to keep up at such a high intense pace. Bear in mind, Pacquiao has been in “toe-to-toe” wars with the hardest of hitters his entire existence, whilst Floyd being the defensive genius has never even officially sampled the canvas; never mind traded “toe-to-toe” on a continued brutal basis. Add in Floyd’s lengthy lay-off’s compared to Pacquiao’s relentless arsenal of wars every six months; add in Manny’s encumbering, distracting political onslaught and you can see why Floyd is positioning random obstacles in the way. Hindering this fight; impeding the day when fate finally beckons; whilst simultaneously accelerating the ageing demise of Pacquiao’s multi-cached arsenal onslaught as the months tick by at an ever alarming rate. A dextrous and adept strategy to avoid a pumped-up Manny in his prime, at the peak of his powers.

I’ve never known a boxer in the history of time have more “co-incidental retirements” when fighters like Cotto, Margarito and Pacquiao were in their absolute pomp; never known a man put so many obstacles in the way of a super-fight through crafty and cunning skull-duggery. Never known a man so materialistic but would rather agree to a $40 million settlement when a $100 million fight is looming and fully accessible; if he truly desires it. If Pacquiao was number two in the “P4P” rankings, you can guarantee he would be doing everything to de-throne the champion for sure; that you can pledge from a true indisputable warrior. Floyd on the other hand constructs every obstacle possible and please spare me the patronising “just take the test in order so we can clean up the sport” act. I’ll let the juvenile and naive amongst the boxing fraternity swallow that one. Good luck, as it chokes in the throats of the more wise boxing truth-seekers.

Manny Pacquiao literally cannot take the risk of blood testing up to the day of the fight; an agreed seven day cut-off over and above commissioning laws…yes, but not up to the day of the fight. Why? Not because of the ludicrous rumour-mongering that he is terrified of needles; not that he is juicing…the reason? He did get randomly tested twice in the initial trilogy of wars against Erik Morales, (passed both times I may add) and was severely weakened for the antagonist riot in the ring that ensued. Don’t believe my subjective opinion as accepted wisdom; rather examine the clear objective evidence that is illustrated, such as the official HBO commentary of the battle back in 2005, stating that the endless ball of energetical stamina that we all know as Manny Pacquiao is “running out gas” by round three.
