By William Mackay: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) says he’s going to smash IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) and take away his two titles when they meet in the ring on July 2nd at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg, Germany. As usual, Haye points to his conditioning and hand speed as being the keys for him to get the win in this fight. Haye firmly believes that he’s better – at least in terms of conditioning – than any other guy that Wladimir has faced thus far.

However, if you look at Haye’s physique, it’s loaded with muscles and that are mainly good for short term fighting. His stamina is questionable, which makes his assertions about being the best conditioned fighter that Wladimir has ever faced rather laughable. On July 2nd, Wladimir will be facing a guy that looks like a bodybuilder and moves like one. This may turn out to be a terrible mismatch with Wladimir spearing a lumbering and timid Haye from the distance and giving him a beating.

In Haye’s recent Hayemaker blog at hayemaker.com, Haye said “Whatever Wladimir brings to the table, I’m going to be able to cover it and knock him out in his adopted homeland [Germany]. He’s getting smashed.”

Most of the rest of the stuff Haye was jabbering about was more or less a repeat of the kinds of things he’s said in the past about his skills. It’s actually kind of boring listening to the guy. I wish he would sit down and come up with some new material about what he’s going to do with Wladimir because Haye has lost about all the originality he ever had with his quotes. I guess he’s spending too much time training and can’t think of new soundbites.
