Haye: Froch can beat Johnson by a wide decision if he’s focused

Image: Haye: Froch can beat Johnson by a wide decision if he's focusedBy Dan Ambrose: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye, a good friend of WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s), believes that Froch can win an easy 12 round decision over Glen Johnson on Saturday night in their Super Six tournament fight. Haye thinks Froch needs to be dialed in the same way he was when he beat Arthur Abraham by a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision in his last fight last November.

Speaking on his twitter page, Haye said “Carl can win fight wide on points if 100% focused like in Abraham’s fight. Carl doesn’t need to mix it up in mid/close range!”

That may be asking a lot of Froch to win a decision as wide as the one he got over Abraham, because Abraham came into the fight with Froch already looking mentally defeated from his previous loss to Andre Dirrell in the Super Six tourney. Froch got the perfect opponent for him to beat in that fight, a fighter who looked mentally not there. Johnson, on the other hand, Johnson is coming into this fight with a big win in his last fight against Allan Green and a history of never giving up mentally in his fights. Johnson is stubborn and won’t be afraid to take Froch’s shots in order to land his own. Abraham wasn’t willing to take shots and he made it easy by not even trying to throw punches in that fight. Froch also doesn’t have good inside fighting skills. Haye could put Froch in trouble if he were to try and put Froch in a close range war with Johnson. That’s a fighting style that’s not suited towards Froch.

Froch only had to worry in the 12th round of their fight, and Froch looked uncomfortable. If Johnson doesn’t quit and keeps pressuring Froch for 12 rounds, we may see Froch break down under the strain and possible get knocked out if he gets hit with too many of Johnson’s big shots. Johnson destroys guys that can’t move, and Froch is a poor mover.
