Image: Froch too slow to beat WardBy Scott Gifloid: It looks like WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KO’s) is on the verge of getting soundly beaten in the Super Six tournament and sent home to England in defeat when he faces WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KO’s) in the finals of the Super Six tourney. I studied Froch’s recent fight against Glen Johnson long and hard, and I didn’t like what I saw of Froch. He fought like a tall spider with slow hands, poor foot work and even worse defense.

I mean, God, his guard was dangling down by his angles half the time, inviting right hands from Johnson all night long. Froch even looked timid after Johnson started serving him up in the 4th round. The thing is the kind of shots that Johnson was periodically hitting Froch with is nothing compared to the punches that Froch will be forced to eat against the incredibly talented Ward. Heck, they might as well crown Ward right now and call his fight against Froch a mere sparring session because that’s what it will amount to.

Froch looks horrible when he’s inching forward in his attempts to attack his opponents. I can see Ward tagging him all night long with straight hands and left jabs to the head. Froch looked so slow against Johnson, especially when he was throwing combinations. It’s going to be sickening to see what Ward does to Froch when he tries to throw his shots. Let’s be real here. Froch isn’t going to be landing anything. If you thought Froch hit nothing but air all night long against Andre Dirrell just watch all the missing Froch will be doing against Ward.

It’s going to be like someone trying to fight with a thick blindfold on. Froch is going to be hitting air and eating shots. And the worry that is going to be on his face is going to be telling. First he’ll look worried, then slow but surely, Froch will start to look depressed as the realization creeps into his head that he’s about to be beaten to a pulp by Ward and sent home to Nottingham, England in miserable defeat. There isn’t anything Froch can do about it, because he doesn’t have to tools in the toolkit to beat Ward. The tools literally aren’t there, and he can’t just go pick them up at a hardware store. If it were possible, Froch could beat War if he could temporarily borrow the talent of Dirrrell for one night. But that’s not possible. Froch is Froch, and he’s going to get beaten back into the stone age by Ward.
