Chisora-Fury: Dereck is a bad match-up for Tyson

By Sean McDaniel: After being handled with kid’s gloves for the past three years unbeaten heavyweight Tyson Fury (14-0, 10 Ko’s) is being put in his first big test against British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) on July 23 at the Wembley Arena in Wembley, London, England.

The fight is a real risky one for the 23-year-old Fury because Chisora can actually fight and has good power. Fury has been put in with a lot of soft opposition since he turned pro and the one halfway decent guy that Fury fought in the past three years, John McDermott, almost beat Fury in their first fight. Well, many boxing fans think McDermott should have won that fight but was on the receiving end of a questionable 10 round decision. Fury also struggled in a rematch with McDermott before stopping him in the 9th round in June 2010. It’s a good thing that Fury did take McDermott out because Fury looked completely gassed and might have been swept in the remaining rounds of the fight had he been forced to fight them.

Chisora has much better power and form compared to Fury, and this could be a real nightmare for Fury. His trainer Emanuel Steward believes that Fury is the real deal and capable of not only beating Chisora but also eventually becoming a world champion the top guy in the division once the Klitschkos retire. It’s hard to see what Steward is talking about because Fury looks to amateurish and lacking in multiple areas of his game. If he’s going to beat Chisora, Fury will have to out-work him and wear the heavy Chisora down. It’s possible, but not probable. For Fury to do this, he’s going to take an enormous amount of big head shots for at least 10 rounds and I don’t know that Fury can take the kinds of shots that Chisora will be landing on him without getting badly hurt and stopped.
