Booth: Haye has a secret strategy to beat Wladimir

By Scott Gilfoid: Adam Booth, the trainer and manager for WBA heavyweight champion David Haye, says they have a secret strategy that they plan on using against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion on July 2nd, and believe that Wladimir won’t be able to train to defeat this strategy.

There’s really only so many different variations to what Haye is already doing that he can use against Wladimir. The only thing Haye can attempt that would be any different from what he’s been doing in the past is to just steam right at Wladimir from the first round and hope to score a quick knockout. Think of it like a little tugboat going right after a big iceberg and hoping it can ram through the iceberg without bursting open the bottom of the boat and sinking. That’ about the only real differences that Haye could bring to the July 2nd Klitschko bout. He’s already fighting in brief spurts and running around the ring a lot to avoid getting hit. Haye can’t box Wladimir, because he doesn’t have the boxing skills to win round in that manner. Haye is a pure slugger, and when he is forced to go 12 rounds, as he did with the limited Nikolay Valuev in 2009, Haye doesn’t look good. Just flat out rushing Wladimir might be Haye’s only chance of winning. Some strategy. I think I could have figured that one out after downing a quart of good scotch. I can just hear Booth telling Haye, ‘Yeah, man, just lower your head, swing your arms and run at him. Maybe we’ll win.”

Speaking with the BBC Sport, Booth said “They [the Klitschko camp] can attempt to predict two or three styles they ma see in David Haye, the way he fights in spurts, has a lot of reset time. But I guarantee they cannot predict what David is going to do on 2 July. We know it…He’s [Haye] punching murderously.”
