Image: Pacquiao-Mayweather: Two fighters failing to live up to their potentialBy Rafa Garcia: This article is in regards to both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, both men have been a hot topic for boxing fans worldwide. The mega-fight that hasn’t happened is dividing opinion as to why the fight hasn’t been made, who has the best resume and the superior skills inside the squared circle. In regards to fight records i strongly believe Floyd Mayweather Jr. has a padded, carefully constructed record to say the least. Mayweather is 41-0 including 25 knockouts, 16 decisions, his most notable victories are against Diego Corrales a prime Jose Luis Castillo and the Golden boy Oscar De La Hoya all three were at the top of there game at the time, before, in-between and after those fights his opponents have been seriously flawed in one way or the other.

Mayweather avoided a prime Sugar Shane at all costs, which was a wise decision as the Mosley of old was a whole different animal and would have been trouble for Mayweather, Juan Manuel Marquez is a natural lightweight and was made to move up two weight divisions to fight Mayweather. Still, Mayweather came into the fight two pounds over weight, Marquez was flawed in every aspect of his fight game due to his body not responding well to the excess weight.

Ricky Hatton generated good money due to his notoriety in the U.K but was never in the same league as Mayweather regarding boxing skills. Every-time i see myself looking at Floyd Mayweather jnr’s record i cant understand why the likes of Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, and Paul Williams are not featured all men were welterweight champions at onetime or another and would have generated serious income for the man that calls himself “money” (Floyd Mayweather) while giving him a tough challenge inside the ring.

Manny Paquiao’s record stands at 53 wins (38 knockouts 15 decisions) 3 losses (2 by knockout one decision) 2 draws. this record includes two fights with Marco Antonio Barrera, a bloody trilogy with Erik “El Terrible” Morales and two explosive wars with Juan Manuel Marquez all three fighters are Mexican legends and were primed fighting machines when they faced Pacquiao, these fights alone will long be remembered as some of the greatest fights in boxing history. Since those fights he has gone on to totally dominate the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Ricky Hatton and Joshua Clotty.

Pacquiao is also guilty of fighting flawed fighters in the latter stages of his career Antonio Margarito, Ricky Hatton, Joshua Clottey and Shane Mosley are flawed at this stage and were not able to give good accounts of themselves against Pacquiao. It seems there is only one name missing off Pacquiao’s record Floyd Mayweather and at the risk of disappointing fans this fight is a non-starter. I would like nothing more than Pacquiao’s last two fights to be against Victor Ortiz then a career defining mega-fight against Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez, win or lose this fight would be every way as big as Mayweather-Pacquiao and would guarantee fireworks.
