One Reigns, The Other Pours

By Edward Davis: I want to start off this article by stating that I do not write as a fan nor do I write as someone with an overly evaluated opinion. But what I write is factual and worthy of taking an interest to. Please read with understanding.

Let’s start here. For some odd reason, no one seems to have taken note of the fact that Floyd Mayweather Jr doesn’t fight the best available fighters. In the latter part of the year of 2007 Floyd Mayweather Jr was suppose to fight the Mayweather vs Dela Hoya 2, but Dela Hoya couldn’t fight that fight because of a bad knee. The available opponents for Mayweather at that time were, Antonio Margarito who was then the Welterweight Champion, Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey, Paul Williams, a younger and better Shane Mosley, oh and by the way Manny Pacquiao who would soon come up to join the Welterweight Division.

Floyd Mayweather in turn chose to retire, and his excuse then was there was no competition. I’m not sure about that fellas, all of those opponents mentioned would of made good fights in 2007 verses a very fast Floyd Mayweather. Let’s take into consideration that since 2005 Floyd Mayweather has been enlisted as a Welterweight Fighter, and the only true Welterweight he’s fought is Zab Judah and a 38 year old Shane Mosley. His last two fights have been the most suspicious to me, out of all those opponents I’ve named, surprisingly they were all available when he chose to come back from retirement. But he chose instead to make a natural lightweight in Juan Manual Marquez, gain 17 lbs to fight him at Welterweight. It boggles me knowing that he’s been in the welterweight division since 2005 and the only welterweights he has managed to fight are Shane Mosley, Carlos Baldomir, and Zab Judah. Knowing that Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Paul Williams, Joshua Clottey, and Manny Pacquiao were all Welterweight champions at one point or another.

Nevertheless, Manny Pacman Pacquioa first fight at welterweight was in 2009 when he fought Miguel Cotto. Since then Manny has managed to fight Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito, and Shane Mosley. Now I know these fighters maybe with the exception of Miguel Cotto, aren’t what they were, but the point I’m making is that Pacman has actually chose to fight the best available fighters in the actual division he’s a part of. All of those fighters were champions, and Pacman happened to be smaller than all of them. Floyd on the other hand hasn’t fought an opponent bigger than him since I don’t know when.

All I know is lately I’ve been reading and hearing a lot of articles stating that Floyd is suspicious that a lot of boxers are abusers of HGH and that a lot of the boxers need some type of stimulant to make them the boxers they are. That saddens me that Floyd Mayweather is willing to throw the sport he represents and the sport that pays him under the bus. Saying that only means that the testing that the sport of Boxing does now is nowhere near good enough. Me personally, I believe this is an effort to continue to make an excuse to not fight a good fight. The only boxers I would be satisfied with watching Mayweather fight is of course Manny, then Paul Williams, then Sergio Martinez. We haven’t been blessed enough to see Mayweather fight a true offensive slugger like those three fighters. And none of us know how good that shoulder roll, Mayweather has seemed to master, is until he fights a fighter that is willing to throw hands for twelve rounds.

Please readers, I am not a Mayweather hater, but I truly and honestly find some of the decisions he makes very suspicious. Even now, I’m not even sure why he hasn’t found an opponent. He hasn’t fought in a whole year, and I believe he does his fans an injustice with this type of treatment. Pacman just got done fighting this past Saturday night and his loyal fans already know they can look forward to seeing him fight again on November 12. That is the sign of a boxer who truly loves the sport and is committed to the people who love the sport. Mayweather has left his fans hopeless and the most they can embark on is the fact that he makes videos and talks trash about fighters. Or that he flashes money and shows stubs of how much money he made on a basketball game. How is that beneficial to anything if he is not in the ring fighting?
