By Joe Gorman: A sad night for Roy Jones (54-8, 40KO’s) as he suffers another devastating 10 round TKO loss in Sport Complex Krylatskoe, Moscow, Russia against the up and coming curserweight contender Denis Lebedev (22-1, 17KO’s).

Jones started off well and was able to land his jabs and straights fast. In the first round, Jones was showboating a lot and landing with good shots. As the fight went on, however, his age and Lebedev’s strength proved to much for the old legend, as he was knocked out in the closing seconds of the 10th and final round. In what was supposed to be a quick wipe out against an apparently “shot” fighter looked like it was going the distance until Levedev caught Jones with a hard shot.

Jones says after the fight he still might come back and he enjoyed the fight. This is a bad idea for Jones he needs to get out of the sport before he gets seriously hurt.

In the past, Jones has shown the ability to keep a constant fast pace and fight in autopilot mode. Today, he thought he could fight at a slow pace and stand in front of his opponents all day long like its a walk in the park. Its not like that anymore. After his first flashy round Jones faded in the second half of the fight as his punch rate slowed, Lebedev started to pressure the living legend with hard body and head shots. Jones looked good previously to this fight weighing in just under 200 lbs. Jones did manage to rock Levedev in the 9th with a nice two punch combination and he showed his boxing ability hasn’t gone just his endurance and power.

I think Roy did well until the 4th round, but from then on he looked gassed and Levedev forced the fight. Lebedev was calm and composed after the first round doing better once he was sitting back countering the aged Jones in the middle rounds. Lebedev has shown he can punch by scoring with hard effective punches against an old fighter. I would like to see what Lebedev could do against a prime fighter with the boxing ability half as good as Jones.
