Image: It’s not that Shane Mosley can’t win against Pacquiao, it's that he won’tBy Robert “Big Moe” Elmore: The hype is building for this Saturday’s fight between Shane Mosley and Manny Pacquiao at a rapid pace. Most people give Shane a chance but I don’t. Mosley has only fought one southpaw his whole career and that was against Winky Wright. Wright didn’t do anything more than jab….straight left…..jab straight left…..all night long. The best advice Naazim Richardson can give Shane is to keep your left foot on the outside of Pacquiao right and avoid the straight left.

Shane’s choice of opponents. Shane opponents have mostly brawlers. When Shane took on Phillip Holiday, his record was 24-0-23 KO’S and his fight averaged 3.4 rounds. Two of this those fights went ten rounds, but they both ended in KO’S. He wasn’t learning anything by doing this. Shane never mixed up his opponents. So when he faced opponents greater than or equal to him (Vernon Forrest, Winky Wright, Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather) he couldn’t change up his game plan. Yeah, to Shane’s credit, he looked great against Antonio Margarito. But we all know, Margarito has no footwork, comes straight ahead, no defense, and continuously throws punches. Who can’t hit that?

Shane mental state mind won’t be stable. Brother Nazim has stated that they will box Pacquaio. Shane has never had a jab and trying to develop one now won’t do him any good. He has always depended on the One big punch to get the ball rolling. He landed it against Mayweather, but May adjusted and dominated the fight. When his so called jab doesn’t work, what else can he can do? He could probably jab for so long. But then he might get cracked by one of Pac’s punches. At this point, Shane’s mind can say “I’m going back to what I know” and this plays right into the Pac Man’s hands. Couple this with the fact that his reflexes are the same as they used to be. In the Mayweather fight, Nazim was desperately trying to get Mosley to relax. People want to compare this fight to the Foreman/Moorer fight and there is no comparison. George is smarter than Shane.

There are only a few guarantees for this fight. One, it’s up under Top Rank. Two, Shane will debuting his own promotional company. Three, both fighters will be paid. And four, Pac will win. This simply a stay busy fight for Pacquiao and big paycheck for Shane.
