Image: Haye: Wladimir is emotionally fragileBy William Mackay: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) met with IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) last week with Max Kellerman to start hyping their July 2nd bout at the Imtech stadium in Hamburg, Germany. During the face off with Klitschko, Haye seems to have gotten under the skin of Wladimir and angered him throughout the short televised meeting.

Haye had this to say about his meeting with Wladimir on his hayemaker.com blog: “It was great to sit down with Wladimir and realize what a sensitive, emotional and fragile character I’ll be going up against on July 2nd. Every little taunt I threw in his direction seemed to chip away at his soul.”

Haye wants to get under Wladimir’s skin so that he’ll lose control of his emotions in their fight and choose to try and punch it out with Haye rather than box and hold. Haye doesn’t want to fight an under control Wladimir and clearly likes his chances against a more wide open version. The problem is that Wladimir, despite getting angry in his meetings with Haye, will likely be under control come fight time on July 2nd. Wladimir is a cautious fighter since being stopped for the third time in his career seven years ago in 2004 against Lamon Brewster. Wladimir is no longer willing to just come out and slug it out the way he did earlier in his career and no matter how much taunting that Haye does to try and get him to break out of this pattern it likely won’t have much affect.

Rather than be more tactical about what he’s trying to accomplish, Haye is out in the open with what he’s trying to do with Wladimir, saying “I want to fight a p*ssed off Wladimir Klitschko and I want to fight a Wladimir Klitschko that actually comes to fight and prove a point.”

Haye isn’t even trying to disguise what he’s doing with Wladimir in attempting to lure him into slugging with him. Haye be better off if he would keep his mouth shut about what he’s trying to accomplish with Wladimir.
