Fury can’t beat Chisora without power and a good jab in his arsenal

Image: Fury can’t beat Chisora without power and a good jab in his arsenalBy Sean McDaniel: Undefeated Tyson Fury (14-0, 10 KO’s) is going into his July 23 bout against British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) with very little in the way of offensive weapons in his arsenal. Fury has little power and can’t jab to save his life.

Fury is just a big heavyweight that likes to fight on the inside but who doesn’t have the power or the skills to fight in close like classic heavyweights in the past such as Lennox Lewis. Fury is sloppy and throws a lot of horrible looking punches that look more slaps and clubbing shots than true power punches thrown with good form.

To Fury’s credit, he now has legendary trainer Emanuel Steward on his team showing Fury the ropes. Unfortunately, Steward’s expertize hasn’t been taken in yet by Fury, because he still looks like the same out of shape and sloppy fighter that he’s always been in the past. Fury does fight a little different in the first couple of rounds of his recent bouts but then he reverts back to the same old wild and sloppy Fury that he’s always been.

Fury has been able to get away with having a lack of skills and bad form because his opposition has been pretty much mediocre the whole lot of them. But in stepping up to go after Chisora, Fury is facing a guy that can fight and will likely punch Fury’s lights out unless Fury can make some major changes to his game. I can’t see Fury growing any power before July and I don’t see him ever developing a respectable jab no matter how long Steward works with him.

Chisora might not be the greatest heavyweight that ever breathed, but he can punch on the inside and once he’s on you, it’s hard to peel him off. Fury will likely grab Chisora when the going gets tough on the inside but Chisora will probably end up clubbing Fury into submission with his free hand the same way he did with Sam Sexton last year. I rate Sexton as a better fighter than Fury and Chisora handled him pretty well. I think it’s curtains for Fury.
