Pacquiao has a string of seven consecutive mismatch fights in which he hasn’t had a competitive fight. The last competitive fight that Pacquiao fought was back in 2008 when he fought Marquez to a controversial 12 round split decision.

Pacquiao is coming off of one of the worse mismatches in his string of mismatches in his recent victory over 39-year-old Shane Mosley on May 7th. Arum should have realize that was going to be a poor fight going in because Mosley had showed that he didn’t have much left in the tank in his previous two fights before taking on Pacquiao.

Arum had this to say in an article at the Philippine Daily Enquirer: “Marquez will come to fight, absolutely, and people should know that if they fight Manny Pacquiao it’s like winning the lottery. So that’s good for everybody.”

I really don’t care how much money Pacquiao or his opponents make. Since I’m not getting any, I’m not thrilled about how good Pacquiao’s opponents have it, especially when they’re often out of their class even before the fight takes place. I’m more interested in seeing a good fight and I don’t know that Marquez will be the one to bring it at this point. He’s old now and it’s three years too late these two fighters matching up for a rematch.

I’d much prefer to see Pacquiao facing Sergio Martinez, Victor Ortiz or Dmitry Pirog. I think those would be good fights, but not sure that Marquez is young enough to given the kind of fight that Arum is hoping for. If Arum had been matching Pacquiao up against guys that were fighting well in the past couple of years, instead of guys that look to be fading, we’d not have had to worry about Pacquiao’s fights not be entertaining.
